Another tranche of Japanese toys that Tim bought when he was in Japan in 1986. He is impressed by their ingenuity and the fact that they are so well made. And still working 40 years later!

A musical yo-yo that plays a tune when you use it. In fact it has two tunes.

A two tone plastic heart which is actually a torch. Of course this is well before LEDs, so it is a traditional bulb. But a very elegant design.

A paper punch that cuts shapes from origami paper. More common now, but quite unusual 40 years ago.

Finally a packet with three black rubber balls. Good for bouncing? One of them bounces really well. the second one doesn’t bounce at all. the third ball is made up of two halves – one half bounces really well, the other half is made of the material that doesn’t bounce at all. So when you drop it onto the table, it might bounce really well, but sooner or later – sooner in this case – it will land on the other side and not bounce at all!

Tim recalls that at the time there were packs with two balls, one called ‘happy ball’ and the other called ‘sad ball’. However with the pack of three, the third one seems to suffer from mood swings!
