There is a growing problem piling up in Ontario, as landfills in the province are running out of space.
Current estimates suggest Ontario’s landfills will reach full capacity by 2036 – and the looming crisis will affect the City of Toronto even earlier.
Since 2011, all of Toronto’s household garbage has been shipped to the Green Lane landfill and each new load of trash is pushing the landfill to the brink.
Kevin Gallagher looks at the growing problem at Ontario landfills and what Canada’s largest city is doing to tackle the issue.
