U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the government shutdown is causing "pain and suffering" for hardworking Americans.

Trump added that he’ll be making permanent cuts to what he called “ popular Democrat programs,” to get them "a little taste of their own medicine."

The shutdown that started last week follows failed attempts in the Senate to pass multiple votes aimed at keeping the government funded past midnight, with both Republicans and Democrats blaming each other for the deadlock.
