White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Thursday that the seizure of a tanker off the coast of Venezuela on Wednesday was done because it’s a "sanctioned shadow vessel known for carrying black market sanctioned oil to the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps).”

Leavitt added that “the vessel is currently undergoing a forfeiter process right now… The United States does intend to seize the oil, however, there is a legal process for the seizure of that oil.”

Leavitt also stated that “prolonged war (with Venezuela) is definitely not something (Trump) is interested in” and the president wants peace, but he also wants to see the “end of illegal drugs trafficked into the United States.”
