There is stern opposition brewing in Italy after reports that the U.S. will be sending its Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to support security operations of its U.S. delegates at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.

"We don’t want Trump’s thuggish squads here; people who kill civilian citizens. We don’t need them," Democratic Party Leader Pierfrancesco Majorino told reporters.

The president of the Milano Cortina organizing committee, Giovanni Malago, confirmed that he’d heard the agents would be "present for technical reasons" but wouldn’t be directly involved with the overall Olympic security operations.
