Venezuela’s opposition leader, María Corina Machado, has won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee commended Machado’s work to promote democratic rights. Nobel chair Jørgen Watne Frydnes said Machado refuses to stay silent and lives in hiding in her own country while fighting for democracy.
The right-leaning activist is also a staunch supporter of President Trump and has praised the administrations efforts to crack down on drug cartels in Venezuela.
