As U.S. President Donald ups the ante against Venezuela – with threats to launch drone strikes on their land to prevent drug trafficking – Canada’s former Ambassador to that country reveals what he learned from his time there.

Ben Rowswell says he believes Trump is expecting the Maduro government to fold under this pressure, but that the socialist Venezuelan president is “hardcore” and would “rather die in office” than commit to a deal with the U.S.

In regards to Venezuela’s military and how well they are taken care of, Roswswell expressed no concern, noting that the generals are “filthy rich” and “oligarchs.”
