As Israel and the United States discuss the next phases of the current Gaza peace plan, one of the major sticking points is the future of Hamas. The 20-point plan demands that Hamas disarm and hand over control of the Strip to a Palestinian government, overseen by an international board. But in the power vacuum that has emerged, Hamas forces are back on the streets looking to reassert their authority.
