Watch Jeremy Allen White Sing in ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere’ | Anatomy of a Scene

From The New York Times.

The biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” follows the rock star as he struggles to record one of his most personal albums, “Nebraska” from 1982. Jeremy Allen White plays Bruce Springsteen and performs the artist’s music throughout the film. In this intimate scene, White as Springsteen performs “My Father’s House.”

Narrating the sequence, the film’s writer and director, Scott Cooper, said that the sequence was meant to show that “songwriting isn’t about invention, but, as Bruce said to me, excavation, that he dug down where it hurt most. And I wanted to capture not the spectacle of Bruce Springsteen, but the intimacy.”

White performs the song, but Cooper said that when the scene cuts to a black-and-white look at Bruce’s childhood, “I weave in Bruce’s voice from the original “Nebraska” recording, which speaks to how I wanted the movie to feel like it’s haunted by Bruce Springsteen and haunted by his pain.”
