U.S. President Donald Trump announced Saturday he is raising tariffs on Canadian goods by 10 per cent.
This escalation comes amid the ongoing controversy regarding Ontario’s pro-trade ad, which quoted former President Ronald Reagan.
Trump delivered the tariff news as both leaders attend the ASEAN summit in Malaysia. Following the announcement, Prime Minister Mark Carney said his government has ‘sole responsibility’ to negotiate with the United States.
