From Global News.
China on Tuesday said it lodged strong objections with Japan over Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent remarks on Taiwan, calling them a violation of the one-China principle and a threat to the political foundation of bilateral ties.
Takaichi triggered a diplomatic spat with Beijing after saying that a hypothetical Chinese attack on Taiwan could trigger a military response from Tokyo.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said senior officials from both countries met in Beijing, where China made “solemn representations” over what it described as Takaichi’s “erroneous remarks.”
Beijing claims democratically governed Taiwan as its own and has not ruled out using force to take control of the island. Taiwan’s government rejects Beijing’s claims.
