Carney begins talks on Canada-UAE trade deal that could cut tariffs

Prime Minister Mark Carney met with UAE President his highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Marking a historic step in Canada-UAE relations, it was the first bilateral meeting between the leaders of the two countries in over 40 years.

Though the meeting was closed to media, Carney’s office says the pair launched a roadmap to boost trade, investment, and regional security.

And as Global’s David Akin reports, negotiations have begun on a Canada-UAE trade deal that could cut tariffs and unlock new markets for Canadian businesses, while driving UAE investment into key Canadian projects.
