Even though U.S. President Donald Trump is absent, he has dominated the first hours of the first G20 summit to take place in Africa. in South Africa, the first ever to be held in an African country.

Trump’s ultimatum to Ukraine to accept a Russian-backed peace plan to end the war there forced Ukraine’s key G20 allies here, including Canada, to huddle on the margins of this summit as they consider a response to the latest U.S. intervention.
