Trump says no firm deadline for Russia, Ukraine to reach peace deal

From Global News.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday backed away from a Thursday deadline for Ukraine to agree to a U.S.-backed peace plan, saying, "The deadline for me is when it’s over."

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, the Republican leader said U.S. negotiators were making progress in discussions with Russia and Ukraine, and that Moscow had agreed to some concessions. However, he did not detail them.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is on an official state visit to Kyrgyzstan, said on Wednesday that he believes the U.S. understands the complexity of reaching a peace settlement in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia will not make concessions regarding settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. Russia will proceed from the results of the summit in Anchorage and considers them as a basis, he added.
