U.S. President Donald Trump has doubled down on controversial remarks he made about the Somali people and a congresswoman for Minnesota.

On Tuesday, Trump called Democratic representative Ilhan Omar and U.S.-based Somali immigrants “garbage,” saying, “They contribute nothing” and that he doesn’t “want them in our country” – then said, “I don’t care,” when pondering if they were politically incorrect.

Omar brushed off the Republican leader’s remarks Wednesday, saying he “has always had very bigoted, xenophobic, Islamophobic comments when it comes to people who are of Muslim faith or people who are Black.”

Omar also claimed Trump is obsessed with her, calling it "creepy."

Hours after Omar’s response, Trump went on a further tirade at the White House. Interrupting a reporter who brought up Minneapolis’s Somali population, the president said, “They destroyed our country,” suggesting, again, they “should get out.”
