UN says more than 1,000 civilians killed in RSF takeover of Darfur displacement camp

From Global News.

A Sudanese paramilitary group killed more than 1,000 civilians during a takeover of a famine-stricken displacement camp in Darfur in April, according to a new UN report.

The UN Human Rights Office says the Rapid Support Forces blocked food and aid for months before launching a three-day assault on the Zamzam camp.

“Such deliberate killing of civilians or persons hors de combat may constitute the war crime of murder,” said UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk.

Investigators documented widespread killings, rape, torture and abductions, including at least 319 people who were summarily executed.
