Convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s body was found dead in his cell at the now-shuttered Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City at 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 10, 2019. Rather than close the story on the disgraced financier, his death before he could stand trial for child sex trafficking charges led to conspiracies, controversies and questions.

Epstein was found to have died by suicide, and in later investigations, medical examiners found no evidence of homicide or attempted homicide.. In the federally operated corrections center, guards failed to do repeated checks and assign Epstein a new cellmate, leaving him alone and unsupervised.
