Around 40 dead in fire at Swiss ski resort New Year’s Eve party

Dozens of people are feared to have been killed and more than 100 others injured, most of them seriously, after a fire tore through a crowded bar during a New Year’s Eve party in the upscale ski resort of Crans-Montana in southwestern Switzerland, Swiss police said on Thursday. Witnesses told French broadcaster BFMTV a candle may have set the ceiling ablaze, but authorities have not yet confirmed the cause.
