From the archives: CIA officer Aldrich Ames arrested, pleads guilty to spying for Soviet Union

On Feb. 21, 1994, the FBI arrested CIA officer Aldrich Ames and his wife on charges of spying for the Soviet Union and Russia, along with tax evasion. Ames pleaded guilty on April 28, 1994, and died in prison on Jan. 5, 2026, at the age of 84. Watch CBS News’ coverage from 1994.
