Construction does considerable damage to landscaping. Jenn Nawada meets with Saratoga homeowners, Evan and Whitney to buttress the yard against the onslaught of machinery and foot traffic it is about to endure. They start by trimming back the 150-year-old vine, then move to specific perennials the couple would like to keep—some will get a new permanent home within the yard, others will make a temporary stay until it’s safe for them to regain their original roots. The last move is to take the pavers up—a laborious task made quicker with some extra hands.
