Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed his displeasure with Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision to increase the limit of Chinese EV import to Canada in exchange for lower tariffs on Canada’s agricultural products.

Ford said he was not consulted before this decision was made, and it was "going to be terrible" and a "big… big problem" for Ontarians and auto manufacturers.

He proceeded to call Chinese EVs "the spy cars" that would "tick off the Americans" and were a cybersecurity threat. "He said it was "just a terrible, miscalculated decision by the prime minister," who took this decision without consultation, when he "always preaches partnership."

"I don’t trust what the Chinese put in these cars," he added.
