U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly-proposed Board of Peace was authorized by the United Nations (UN) Security Council “strictly” for its promised work in Gaza, a spokesperson says.

“We would have to see in terms of details what the Board of Peace becomes as it actually is established to know what sort of relationship we would have with it,” Farhan Haq told reporters at the UN’s New York City headquarters on Monday.

The establishment of the U.S.-led intergovernmental institution was announced last week and will supposedly oversee the reconstruction of Gaza after the strip was devastated by Israel in a war against Hamas over the last few years.

Canada, India and Russia are among the nations Trump has invited to join the board.
