President Donald Trump says he wants the US to control Greenland, a Danish island for hundreds of years. He went as far as threatening tariffs on Denmark and its European allies who oppose any move to give away or sell the territory, but at the World Economic Forum in Davos he said the framework for an agreement had been reached. However, he declined to confirm whether the US would in fact gain control of Greenland, or if there had been a compromise. So why is Donald Trump so interested in the icy expanse, which is home to only 57,000 people?
