Addressing the fatal shooting of Minneapolis local and ICU nurse Alex Pretti on Saturday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has pointed her finger towards the city’s mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

“This tragedy occurred as a result of a deliberate and hostile resistance by Democrat leaders in Minnesota,” Leavitt said. “Governor Waltz and Mayor Frey… have also used their platforms to encourage left-wing agitators to stalk, record, confront and obstruct federal officers who were just trying to lawful perform their duties,” she added.

Furthermore, Leavitt suggested negative “rhetoric against ICE [Immigrations and Customs Enforcement]” was “precisely” what led to Saturday’s tragedy.

Pretti, 37, was shot dead by a U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agent while being held down by several other officers. USBP Commander Greg Bovino said Pretti was armed and interfering with a mission to apprehend an “illegal alien” before being shot.

The killing – the second in Minneapolis in less than three weeks – has intensified protests against the deployment of thousands of federal agents to the city as part of President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
