From PBS NewsHour.
A man sprayed an unknown liquid at Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar at a town hall in Minneapolis on Tuesday.
The incident took place as public tensions have intensified over the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in Minnesota and the fatal shooting of a second U.S. citizen this year by federal agents.
Before the attack, Omar called for the abolishing of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and said Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem "must resign or face impeachment."
The man, identified by police as 55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak, was tackled and immediately arrested by Minneapolis police. As of Wednesday morning, there was no information available on the contents of the liquid.
Omar, who has repeatedly faced attacks from President Donald Trump, wasn’t injured and continued speaking after the man was taken out.
"I’m ok. I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work," she wrote in a post on X. "I don’t let bullies win."
