Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz defended the right to peaceful protests and expressed skepticism about the Trump administration’s calls earlier this week to de-escalate its immigration crackdown in his state in an interview Friday with NPR’s “All Things Considered.”
“I know who I’m dealing with. I know that they’re not going to keep their word,” Walz said, days after a meeting with President Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, who had signaled a willingness to withdraw some ICE agents from the state following the deadly shooting of Minneapolis resident Alex Pretti. On Thursday, the president backtracked and said he did not intend to pull back agents from the state.
