Legendary Canadian actor and comedian Catherine O’Hara has died. The 71-year-old passed away at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness, according to her agency. O’Hara launched her extraordinary career at Second City in Toronto back in the 1970s. She would become a beloved, Emmy-winning Canadian icon with roles spanning genres and generations – from Kevin McAllister’s mother in Home Alone, to Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek. Heidi Petracek reports on O’Hara’s life and legacy.
Canada’s aviation industry is struggling to make sense of Trump’s latest trade threat. On Thursday evening, the U.S. president announced a ban on new Canadian-made aircraft – pointing specifically to Montreal-based Bombardier’s private jets. Trump claims Canada has refused to certify an American competitor. The Canadian aerospace giant is warning of significant impact to air traffic and passengers if Trump makes good on his threat. The White House said earlier this week it was trying to “deescalate” its controversial immigration enforcement actions in Minnesota. But protesters’ anger was further fuelled Friday by news of more arrests – including of journalists. Heather Yourex-West has the latest from Minneapolis.
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is releasing more files related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Three million pages of documents, photos and videos were just made public – marking the largest and final batch of documents to be released, according to the DOJ. These files reveal Epstein visited Canada in 2014, despite having a criminal record, and was later denied a temporary resident permit due to his prior conviction. Candice Cole reports from Washington.
