Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is set to speak at the biannual Conservative convention, which is taking place this weekend in Calgary.

Alberta separatism has been a front-burner issue for the premier, with a leader of Alberta’s independence movement saying some members of her United Conservative Party caucus have signed a petition now in circulation to force a vote on the province leaving Canada.

Meanwhile, members of the Conservative Party of Canada voted overwhelmingly Friday to keep Pierre Poilievre party leader.

More than 87 per cent of voting members cast ballots in support of Poilievre’s continued leadership.
