Israeli airstrikes hit a Hamas-run police station, apartments and tents across Gaza City on Saturday, killing at least 27 people, according to local health authorities.

Medics and rescue crews rushed to the scene of a strike on a police station in the Sheikh Radwan area as civilians and officers were reported among the dead.

Israel said the strikes were in response to gunmen emerging from a tunnel in Rafah, calling it a violation of the October ceasefire.

The violence comes amid growing strain on the truce, with both sides accusing the other of breaching the agreement.
