Groundhog Day 2026: Punxsutawney Phil predicts 6 more weeks of winter

From Global News.

The renowned rodent weather forecaster, Punxsutawney Phil, called for 6 more weeks of winter for his annual prediction on Groundhog Day in Pennsylvania Monday.

The tradition, observed on February 2nd every year, derives from folklore that says if the groundhog emerges from its burrow and sees its shadow, winter will continue for six more weeks. The absence of a shadow implies an early spring is on the horizon.

The most famous Groundhog Day celebration in the United States occurs on a hill known as Gobbler’s Knob in the western Pennsylvania town of Punxsutawney where groundhog enthusiasts gather for the event.
