Winnipeg woman dies after waiting 11 hours in ER: “Health-care system let us down”

From Global News.

A Winnipeg family is grieving the loss of a mother and sister remembered as someone who could make “everyone and anyone laugh” after she died waiting hours in the emergency room last month.

Stacey Ross, 55, died on Jan. 16 after her family said she waited 11 hours after being admitted to the emergency room at St. Boniface Hospital. Prior to that visit, she went to two doctor appointments and another ER visit for chest pain, where she waited 12 hours and was sent home with a referral.

"There’s nothing more you can do in that situation, and I think the health-care system really let us down, and she died," daughter Morgan Ross said.

Stacey’s family told Global News they received an autopsy report, which showed she died of coronary artery disease.

Vasilios Bellos reports.
