Supreme Court allows California redistricting

From PBS NewsHour.

The U.S. Supreme Court is allowing the state of California to use a newly drawn congressional map that favors Democrats in this year’s midterm elections. The justices on Wednesday rejected a request by California Republicans to override an appeals court’s approval of the map, which could help Democrats flip five seats.

It comes about two months after the court cleared the way for Texas to use a map aimed at helping Republicans pick up five seats of their own. That map was pushed by President Trump and helped kick-start a nationwide battle over redistricting.
