The second full day of the Milano-Cortino Olympics is wrapping up with plenty of excitement and drama. But a long wait is also ending for hockey fans as NHL players finally return to the games. Members of Canada’s men’s hockey team arrived in Milan earlier on Sunday. Among them is two-time Olympic Gold medallist Sidney Crosby, who has been named team captain. Not since Sochi in 2014 have NHL players laced up for the Olympics.
Lindsey Vonn was taken to hospital after a violent crash during the Olympic downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo on Sunday. Vonn lost control early in her run and was airlifted from the course for medical assessment. Vonn had been attempting a comeback despite a recent knee injury, with her Olympic return drawing global attention. Candice Cole reports.
One of the best feel good stories at these Olympics is Canadian, but right now it’s on hold. Canadian figure skaters Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps were favoured to be medal contenders, but after an injury in training last week they may have to pull out. At 42, Stellato-Dudek will be one of the oldest athletes at the games if she’s cleared to skate. Mike Armstrong reports.
Days after the Washington Post fired hundreds of journalists and staff, the man in charge of the newspaper is following his former employees out the door. Will Lewis, the embattled CEO and publisher announced he’s stepping down. It comes as Post staff worry about the safety of the journalists left in foreign countries.
