From Global News.
A trio of Canadian athletes reigned as champions Tuesday after winning the Women’s Team Pursuit Speedskating race at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics.
Alongside Quebec’s Valérie Maltais, Isabelle Weidemann and Ivanie Blondin – both from Ottawa – spoke to Global News after the race, expressing their shock and excitement that they are bringing home another gold medal for Team Canada.
“We’ve worked so hard for this… to be returning [as] Olympic champions is a dream come true.” Blondin said.
“It’s weird to say that we didn’t expect it, because we didn’t talk too much about it,” Maltais joked. “We were just focused on the process,” she added.
“There were some really competitive teams out there. Everybody had a shot,” Weidemann added.
Four years after claiming the gold in Beijing, the three are now repeated champions. They said this race was likely their last together, however.
