BC hikes tax rate as budget delivers record $13B deficit

British Columbia’s finance minister warned the provincial budget was going to make her unpopular, and the financial picture delivered today proved Brenda Bailey correct – with the debt and deficit climbing, and service cuts and tax hikes coming.

The provincial budget is forecast to climb to $13.3 billion — more than the forecasted $3.5 billion forecast – meaning government spending is up $4.1 billion over 2025.

With this, the province’s total debt will climb to more than $183 billion.
