From Global News.
A South Korean court sentenced former president Yoon Suk Yeol to life in prison Thursday, finding him guilty of masterminding an insurrection tied to his December 2024 declaration of martial law.
Judges said Yoon deployed troops to parliament in an attempt to paralyze the National Assembly, calling it a bid to subvert the constitutional order.
Supporters rallied outside the Seoul Central District Court, while residents watched the ruling live, reflecting deep divisions over the unprecedented case.
“Even though martial law was invoked, our people responded wisely,” said 77-year-old resident Lee Chang-hui, calling the decision a “very good and appropriate” ruling.
