US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace has held its first meeting in Washington DC – with members pledging a multi-billion aid package to rebuild Gaza.
Representatives from more that 40 countries attended the meeting, one month after the group was officially created. Trump said members have agreed to pledge $7 billion for a Gaza relief package, only a fraction of the estimated 70 billion needed to rebuild the devastated territory. Trump also announced that five countries had agreed to deploy troops to the territory as part of an international stabilization force. Several key US allies were absent from the talks: But the president suggested more countries would soon join the board.
