A series of forceful rulings from federal judges is emerging as a major check on the Trump administration’s deportation agenda. These judges appointed by both Democratic and Republican presidents are calling out the administration’s brazen refusal to consistently adhere to the law. Doing so has brought upon them the ire of the President himself who has labeled them as "rogue judges" engaging in "judicial activism.” Former Federal Judge Nancy Gertner says "there were always disgruntled litigants…always people who didn’t like the outcome" but "I’ve never heard this kind of language, by politicians, by the US Attorney’s Office. It never happened." Slate’s Mark Joseph Stern adds, "the American people want an independent judiciary. They want separation of powers. They don’t want to see a judiciary that simply bends the knee to Trump."
