Canada has issued a travel advisory for Mexico, urging Canadians to keep a low profile, monitor local media and follow the advice of local authorities.

The U.S. government has also advised Americans to shelter in place in Jalisco state amid ongoing violence.

Several airlines have suspended or adjusted service, with WestJet diverting and cancelling flights to Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and Manzanillo.

Air Canada has temporarily suspended operations in Puerto Vallarta as travellers are urged to check their flight status before heading to Mexico.
