On Sunday, the Mexican army killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, dismantling what had become Mexico’s most powerful drug organization. The killing sparked violent retaliation, including roadblocks and arson, leaving dozens dead. The U.S. State Department is urging American nationals in parts of Mexico to “seek shelter and remain in residences or hotels until further notice.”
