Four Supreme Court justices attended President Donald Trump’s first formal State of the Union address of his second term on Tuesday, Feb. 24, just days after the court struck down his sweeping tariff regime in a 6-3 ruling.

A mixed group of justices appeared in the House chamber of Feb. 24, mirroring the attendance at Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress last year.

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Elena Kagan, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett attended Trump’s 2025 speech to a joint session of Congress while Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson, Clarence Thomas, Samuel A. Alito, Jr., Sonia Sotomayor and Neil M. Gorsuch did not.
