Sri Lankan‑born baker Sithamparappillai Jegatheepan received a stream of congratulations at his bakery in southern Paris, a day after winning the capital’s coveted best traditional baguette prize on his first attempt.

"I never thought I would win the competition," Jegatheepan said. Bakery worker Christianne Ribeiro said the team was still taking in the news.
