They’ve OUTSOLD Every Rock Band of Last 25 Yrs & Had 30 Hits-Why are They the MOST HATED Band EVER?

From Professor of Rock.

The Love songs we love to hate and hate to love… Music at it’s best…Including Billy Joel, Peter Gabriel, Journey, and some guilty pleasures like Nickelback, Bryan Adams and Color Me Bad. it’s an episode that may raise a few eyebrows. In honor of Valentine’s Day, I’m counting down the Top 10 love songs you shouldn’t be ashamed to love, or maybe we should say it’s a countdown of the songs we hate to love… I’m not going to be too cool for school for this one. You can call them guilty pleasures or whatever you want, but the stories behind these songs are great, including the story behind one of the most iconic music scenes in 80s cinema. It almost never happened because lead actor John Cusack was furious that he might come off looking like a wuss. And he was so annoyed doing the scene, the director thought they wouldn’t be able to use any of the takes. But the pissed-off look in his eyes actually made the scene pop culture gold. Then there’s the group Color Me Badd that released a massive bilingual hit I Adore Mi Amore, despite the fact that not a single member actually spoke Spanish. So they were coached phonetically, word by word in the studio on how to sing the song. Then they had to frantically learn the language on tour so they wouldn’t be exposed as frauds. And we’ve got the power ballad Far away from the most hated band in the world, Nickelback, that’s actually… a lot better than you remember … Forget the internet mob, these songs are worth it… Let’s go.

Hey Music Junkies Professor of Rock… Always here to celebrate the greatest artists and the greatest songs of all time, make sure to subscribe. Let’s get right into it. So, coming in at #10, I’ve got the rocker known as the “Groover from Vancouver,” Canada’s own Bryan Adams. The song is Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?. It was the last of 3 major movie soundtrack songs for Adams. In 91, he recorded the #1 hit “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. In 93 he teamed up with Rod Stewart and Sting on another #1 hit, The 3 Musketeers song "All For Love.” And Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman featured in Don Juan DeMarco, starring Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando. Not surprisingly, after scoring two #1 singles with producer Mutt Lange and songwriter Michael Kamen, Adams was ready to make it 3 in a row. Bryan called up Kamen and asked him what he was working on. Michael said he was scoring an odd film. “It’s not Robin Hood, it’s not Kevin Costner. It’s not even The Three Musketeers, but it’s a great film about love, and it’s a sweet story and a fabulous fantasy… and we could come up with something great.” Bryan was all in.

But when Kamen pitched Bryan Adams, the film’s music supervisor, Dawn Soler wanted nothing to do with the Canadian rocker. She called the "standard Adams power ballad" formula "straight dogshit.” Johnny Depp was sort of an alternative character at that time, and Dawn was determined to use a track by Tori Amos or Michael Stipe… But she couldn’t get the film to either of them. So her plan was to write a new song and shoehorn into the movie somewhere. But it wasn’t going to be Bryan Adams. Kamen protested to New Line Cinema founder Bob Shaye and convinced him to give Bryan a shot. Said Kamen, “There’s a little dance the father and mother do when they first meet. It’s a wonderful scene and I came up with a theme for them to dance to, a sort of Mexican folk tune.” That became the melody of the chorus of Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?’ In the meantime, Adams had written a little something himself… When he and Lange visited Kamen in LA , Adams suggested tying two songs together. One could be the verse and the other the chorus. And the result in Kamen’s words was enough to “make women melt.” When director Jeremy Leven heard the song he thought it was fantastic

In at #9 it’s Starship with Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now. Written by the songwriting team of Diane Warren and Albert Hammond, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now was the 3rd chart topping single for Starship after "We Built This City" and “Sara”.
