From Global News.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to deliver remarks Saturday morning from Mumbai after the U.S. and Israel launched a major attack on targets across Iran on Saturday.
U.S. President Donald Trump called on the Iranian people to “take over your government” — an extraordinary appeal that suggested the allies could be seeking to end of the country’s theocracy after decades of tensions.
The prime minister arrived in Mumbai on Friday, looking to cement stronger trade ties with India, one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. He will also have a stop in New Delhi.
Both countries have signalled a willingness to turn a new leaf in a relationship marred by recent geopolitical tensions.
The Canada-India trade relationship is worth $30.8 billion, according to a statement from Carney’s office. At last year’s G7 Summit in Alberta, Carney and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, agreed to more than double that figure to $70 billion by 2030 by signing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
