WATCH: ‘Help has arrived,’ Netanyahu tells Iranian people

From PBS NewsHour.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday that that goal of its major military campaign with the United States in Iran is to “end the threat” of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s regime.

Smoke was seen rising from the capital Tehran, with first strikes of “Operation Roaring Lion” appearing to hit areas around the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. More strikes have been reported nationwide by Iranian media.

“Together with the United States, we will strike the terror regime harshly. We will create the conditions that will allow the brave Iranian people to rid themselves of the burden of this murderous regime,” Netanyahu said.

Speaking to the Iranian people, the Israeli leader said that “everyone is coming to your aid.”

“Help has arrived. And I believe the day is near when Israel and free Iran will hold hands in favor of security and peace, in favor of progress and prosperity.”

President Donald Trump also shared those sentiments in his own remarks Saturday, telling the people of Iran, “the hour of your freedom is at hand.”

“America is backing you with overwhelming strength and devastating force. Now is time to seize control of your destiny and to unleash the prosperous and glorious future that is close within your reach. This is the moment for action. Do not let it pass.”
