World leaders including Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, spokespersons from Russia and Moscow, among others, called for peace and de-escalation after U.S. and Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran Saturday.

"It’s not a matter of whether one agrees with one regime or another; it’s the civilian population who pays," Sheinbaum said during a news conference. "That’s why Mexico’s call is always to pursue a peaceful resolution of conflicts."

Iranian state media announced Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s death early on Sunday. A senior Israeli official told Reuters earlier that the Iranian leader’s body had been found after a strike and U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States worked closely with Israel to target the man who led Iran since 1989.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday said he stood by his decision not to support initial joint U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran after U.S. President Donald Trump criticized his approach.
