Nicholas Drummond, a U.K.-based defence industry analyst, says the idea of a large-scale U.S. military deployment is unlikely. ‘Iran has a very large regular army. To put enough boots on the ground to be able to take [it] out or to effectively compete would be very challenging,’ he said, adding any U.S. forces in Iran would likely be used as a ‘scalpel to achieve very specific mission objectives.’
