U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday he has reassigned former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and named Sen. Markwayne Mullin as her replacement.

Trump said Noem would be given the new role of Special Envoy for the Shield of Americas,” which he said is part of a new security initiative in the Western Hemisphere to be announced Saturday.

Following the announcement, Noem released a statement thanking Trump and said she looks forward to working with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
