German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has suffered a blow in a key state election. The rival Green Party has won elections in the wealthy southwestern region of Baden-Württemberg. The Green Party’s Cem Özdemir is now set to become the first politician with Turkish roots to lead a German federal state.
