Smartphones are now so ubiquitous that many people don’t think twice about spending more than $1000 on the latest model when it comes out.

But forty years ago, the technology was brand-new. And even though the primitive phones were heavy, pricey and not particularly user-friendly, the market for them in B.C. was already heating up.
